Sequencing training: strengthening capacities of the Muraz center (Burkina Faso)

Training at IRD Montpellier

In October, two researchers from Burkina Faso spent six weeks at IRD’s TransVIHMI laboratory in Montpellier. They were trained in the protocols of the Twist capture method (sequencing of complete viral genomes on Illumina) and in data analysis with GeVaRLi. Positive samples for Chikungunya and Dengue, sent from Burkina Faso, were analyzed, producing high-quality results.

Equipment for the Muraz Center laboratory

At the same time, the needs to fully equip the Muraz Center laboratory were identified. Orders have been placed to supply the missing equipment and reagents needed to enable sequencing to continue locally.

Towards sustainable skills and results

This training has enriched the researchers’ knowledge of the AFROSCREEN network’s protocols and pipelines. It is part of a drive to strengthen local capacities, enabling the Muraz Center to develop its technical and scientific autonomy and consolidate its efforts in the field of viral sequencing.
